How to connect a LINE Official Account and a Telegram bot, one screenshot per step

Never done this before? Follow the screenshots one step at a time; it takes about 15 minutes. Every step has a link that opens the page you need. One of LINE or Telegram is enough to start.

LINE

Connect a LINE Official Account (10 steps)

The pink box in each screenshot marks what to click in that step. Click an image to enlarge it. The LINE console is shown in Traditional Chinese and BotFather in English.

Open LINE Official Account Manager and choose Create

Log in with your everyday LINE account and choose Create on the left. If you already have an Official Account, jump to step 3.

Enter the account name and submit

The account name is what fans see. Fill in your email and category, then continue to the end. It is free.

Go to Settings → Messaging API

Open your Official Account, choose Settings at the top right, then Messaging API on the left. The first time you see Enable Messaging API: choose it, create a provider named after you, leave the rest empty and confirm.

Copy the Channel secret

Use the copy button next to Channel secret on that page and paste it into Channel Secret in the FansNetwork dashboard.

Open LINE Developers and open your channel

Log in with the same LINE account, choose your provider on the left, open the channel named after your Official Account, then choose the Messaging API tab.

Scroll to the bottom and issue a Channel access token

Scroll all the way down the Messaging API tab and choose Issue (it says Reissue if one exists). Copy the long string and paste it into Channel Access Token in the dashboard.

Back in the FansNetwork dashboard, test first

With both fields filled in, choose Test connection. When it shows that it works and your account name, choose Connect LINE.

Back in LINE, turn the webhook on

Settings → Response settings, and switch Webhook on (green). Without it, fan messages never reach the dashboard.

Further down, set the response method to manual chat

Choose manual chat, not the option that includes auto-response messages, so fans do not get a canned LINE reply to every message.

Send yourself a test message

Add your Official Account as a friend, send "test", and check Conversations in the FansNetwork dashboard. If it is there, you are done.

Connect a Telegram bot (4 steps)

Find BotFather in Telegram

Search for BotFather, pick the one with the blue check mark, choose Start, then send /newbot.

Answer two questions: name, then username

BotFather asks for a name (what fans see), then a username (letters, numbers and underscores only, ending in bot).

Copy the token

The success message contains a token like 123456789:AAxxxx. Copy all of it, both sides of the colon.

Paste it into the FansNetwork dashboard and connect

Paste it into Bot Token and choose Connect Telegram. When it says Connected you are done; there is nothing else to set up.

What do I need before starting?

A phone, the LINE account you normally use (plus Telegram if you want it), and a computer. A computer makes copy and paste much less error-prone.

Can I share these values with anyone?

No. Anyone holding them can send messages as you. Paste them only into the FansNetwork dashboard.

What if I get stuck?

Test connection fails: the Channel access token is incomplete; copy it again in step 6.

Connected but no messages arrive: go back to step 8, the webhook is off.

Fans get two replies: go back to step 9 and choose manual chat.

Telegram says the token is invalid: copy all of it, including the digits before the colon.

What if a value leaks?

LINE: choose Reissue in step 6; the old token stops working. Paste the new one into the dashboard and connect again.

Telegram: send /revoke to @BotFather and paste the new token into the dashboard.
